Introduction
In the district there are several social service organisations functioning on voluntary basis with the support of government and public. District Red Cross Society, District Child Welfare Coucil, Sewa Sangh, Kaithal; Bharat Vikas Prishad, Kaithal; Haryana Kalyan Samiti,Kaithal; Lion's Club, Kaithal; Rotary Club, Kaithal; Rashtriya Vidya Samiti, Kaithal; Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Kaithal; Arya Smaj Kaithal;Lion's Club Kaithal- Central;Swami Vasudeva Dharmarth Trust,Kaithal; Navjeevan Kala Manch, Cheeka; Society for the prevention of cruelty to animal; Indian Nursery Man Association, Kaithal are organisations are discussed below in brief.

District Red Cross Society
The society was established in 1989 at the time of formation of the district.It is an international voluntary organization committed to the ideal to help to the poor, widows, orphans and is free from religious, sectarian or political affiliations. The society has provided economic help to the widows and free medicines to the patients as recommended by the hospitals. It organises camps for blood donation. The society is running a 'Bal Kunj' for orphans where there are 30 inmates, and 'Apna Ghar'for helpless widows. The Cross Society, Kaithal is endeavouring to open tailoring-knitting-embroideary centre for these widows to make them self-reliant. Ambulance service is also provided in Civil Hospital, Kaithal. The society is running trained Dai Centres at Barot and Bhana villages, sewing ceanatrea at Pundri, maternity and child welfare centre at Kaithal and Kasht Niwaran Kendra to settle family disputes at Kaithal.

District Child Welfare Council
The following activities are taken up/conducted by the council for the all round development of the children.

1. Creche Centre: For Working Women and ailing mothers 16 crèches are being run for the general look-after of the Children in which about 400 children in the age group 0-3 years availing benefit of this service. These children are provided the services of supplementry nutrition, enterainments, sports/games and general look after. Besides this, special attention is paid to their all round development under the care of one Balsevika, one Helper and a sweeper. About 5-6 lac rupees are spent on these crèches every year. 2. Street Working Children Project: Under the grant-in-aid scheme received from Social Justic & Empowerment Haryana through Haryana State Council for Child Welfare, Chandigah two Centres are being run for the ragpickers and socially deprived children Education, Health, Supplementry Nutrition, Non- formal education & voctional training is provided to these children in its two centers located at Sirta Road & Jakholi Adda, Kaithal. In each Centre services are provided to 50 children. One Cutting & Tailoring Centre for the young girls of that are is also functioning. So for 70 children have been admitted in various Govt. Schools for further study through these centers. Summer/Winter uniforms, Books are provided to the children. Recreational & educational trips to various historical places are arranged for the children. During the previous years trips arranged for Pinjore Garden, Chandigarh, Kurukshetra, Bhakra Dam, Chhat Bir Zoo, Golden Temple, & Wagah Border Durgian Mandir Amritsar Mathura & Agra etc.
Every possible effort is made to bring these children in the mainsteram of society so that they may feel proviledge to be good citizen.

3. Bal Bhawan/Mini Bal Bhawan: A Bal Bhawan has been established for the purpose of providing various services to the children under one roof. In this Bal Bhawan a crèche, children’s Library and Hobby Classes are run besides council’s office. In addition to this swings have been installed in its beautiful premises. Mini Bal Bhawans have been established each at Pai, Jakholi and Cheeka wherein Gyms, libraries for the development of rural children & women are run. Children of that locality & nearby ares are being benefited through these Bal Bhawans.

4. Children Day Function: For celebrating children’s Day various Competitions are organized at Block level & Distt. Level, maximum participations on the part of children is ensured. These competitions are organised in three age groups- primary classes children, middle classes children and secondary classes children. Among these competitions Decorating rural articles, Jokers, Antakrshari, Poem recitations, Essay writing, Collage making, Handwriting, Mehandi, Clay modeling, Poster making, Solo dance, Group song, Group dance, Painting, Rangoli etc. are included. On 14th November the winners of these Competitions are given away the prizes at Bal Bhawan by DC-cum-President Distt. Child Welfare Council himself or by any other highly placed officer recommended by the DC, On this occasion colourful cultural programmes are presented by the children and sweets are distributed among the children.

5. Hobby Classes: To develop the talent/hidden talent of children & to make use of time in a best possible manner painting, music,dance,karate,soft toys, hair & skin, beautification classes are organized at different pleces of Kaithal city and in Bal Bhawan especially during summer vacations. About five hundred children are benefited by these classes.

6. National Painting Competition (Contest): A National Painting Competition is organized almost in August every year. It is a project of Indian Council for Child Welfare, New Delhi & under the rules provided by ICCW children of five different age groups. Children from various schools take part in this Contest. Selected entries are recommended to Haryana State Council for Child Welfare for State level competition and through it are recommended to Indian Council for Child Welfare, New Delhi for National Level Contest. Indian Council for Child Welfare awards the children selected at the National Level prizes.

7. Stitching-Cutting-Training Centre: Stitching-Cutting-Training Centre are run by the council with the assistance of Haryana State Council for Child Welfare, Chandigarh in which about 100 girls/women are benefited every year. The trainees are given the raw material free of cost in this centre. The place for stitching-cutting centre is changed from time to time so that the girls/women in different villages are benefited.

8. Children Libraries: Children libraries have been established at Bal Bhawan, Kaithal & one each at Mini Bal Bhawan at Pai ,Jakholi & Cheeka to develop the reading habits in children and to provide them healthy, enter-taining and knowledge increasing books. In these libraries almost all kinds of books relating to childrens’s interest are available. To look after the functiong of each library at Pai, Jakholi and Cheeka appointments have been made on consolidated honorarium.

9. Adoption of Children: Adoption of children is one of the most important programme of Haryana State Council for Child Welfare which aims at creating wide awarness about adoption of children as well as right information to interested parents about adoption. This programme also ensure to remove their doubts about it. As soon as the department receives any information about any orphan child/unclaimed newly born baby in the district, he/she is immediately sent to the Shishu Greh situated at Panchkula run by HSCCW after completing all formalaties. There is full arrangment of looking after (care) the children and the next procedure of adoption begins there.

10. Computerized Registration System: Computrized Registeration System Centres are being run at Sub-Tehshil Pundri, Kalayat, Siwa, Dhand and Rajound by the Institution since 2001 to strengthen the financial resourecs where all registration related to land are done through computers.

11. Children Amusement Park: Amusement Park for children has been establited at Jawaahar Muncipal Park in Kaithal to provide children with the World class entertainment in District Kaithal. Various instrument have been installed which include a family-Train, a Caterpillar, a Mini Flight, a Marry-go-round and two Swings. It is worth seeing for its high quality gardening. At present this park is on contract basis.

12. Swadhar Plan: The Govt. of India has grant its consent to establish a Swadhar Centre with the capacity of 25 women for the help of women who are living in adverse circumstance. A list of identified beneficiartes has been sent to Govt. of India releasing grants. This Centre is expected to start its work soon. Facility of cusultaion/ Counselling will be provided to women regarding residance, health, food rehablitation and business. Besides this, a help-line will also be provided to help the women in districts.

13. Drug Adictions and Rehablitation Centre: At Cheeka in Kaithal, a Drug Addiction and Rehablilation Centre with the capacity of 15 beds is being run since 26th June 2005 by the Council with the Co-operation of Ministery of Social Justice & Empoverment Govt. of India to get rid of this menance. Free Treatment is being given to victims of Drug-Adiction. At least 393 Drug-Adicts have been registered in this Centre so far. Out of there 164 victims have been admitted to hospital and 137 persons have got rid of this evil. Services of free counciling, propagation and medicines are given in this Camp.

14. Celebration of Special Days: Women Day on March 8, Painting Competition of on Tobaco Day on May 31, Essay writing competetion on the occasion of August Karanti Diwas on August, 8, Speech Competition on Teacher’s Day on September, 5, Science Quiz Competition on 16 Sept. on the occasion of World Ozone Day,hand made painting Competition on the occasion of Haryana Mayrtres Day on Oct., 2, Colage making competition on the occasion of world Food Day on Oct. 16, Speech Competition on the occasion of U.N. Day on Oct. 24, making of Rural ornamental things on the occasion of Haryana Day on Nov., 1 various competition on the occasion of Children’s Day during 6th to Nov. 14th National adoption of awareness Week during 14 Nov. to 20 Nov. Paper massy on the occasion of world Heritage Day on Nov. 19 and celebrations of Human Rights Day on Dec.10. Every year Nutrition week is celebrated during 1-8 August. Programmes are organized time to time on the recommandation of Govt./Head Quarters.

15. Establishment of Child Line Service Toll-free No. 1098: The Child Line Service Toll-Free No. 1098 has been establishment for the help of children who need care and protection & want any type of gnidance.

16. Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidalaya: With a view to provide education to the Girl-child who belong to poor families, SC/ST, a school in the name of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidalaya has been started w.e.f. Nov.07 for the school drop out children at Rajound under grant-in-aid from Director, Haryana Prathmik Shiksha Pariyojna Parishad, Chandigarh. About 100 Balikas are getting education in 6th & 7th standerd at present. Education is being given totally free of cost. Expenditure on the books, uniforms, sationery & other misc. items is met out of grant provided for the purpose. It is a residential school & building to provide hostel accommodation to the student is under construction.

17. Computer Centre: A computer Centre has been started in Pundri block about 15 K.M. away from Distt. H.Q. for the girls. This is a project sanctioned by the Women & Child Deptt., Haryana where computer education is being provided free of cost 30 students.

18. Future Plans: Whatever projects relate to Child Devlopment Sanctioned by the Govt./various Deptt. under welfare schems will be implemented whole-heartily.


Sewa Sangh
This non-political organisation with 300 dedicated workers in the service of humanity was founded by Shiv Shankar Pahwa who was associated with social organisations during his post-graduation at Kurukshetra University. But he owes this spirit inherited from his mother. This organisation provides drinking water service in the town, gives means-cum-merit scholarships to students, runs a Homoeopathic Dispensary and blood donor's society. It provides help to the poor by giving Jerseys, shoes to students, arranges marriages of poor girls and helps the orphan children in Bal Kunj run by Red Cross Society. The organisation has constructed a school building in a slum area namely, Patel Nager and handed over it to government. Eye camp is being organised every year for one week by the Sangh. The dedicated workers are ever ready to serve the people under various 'yojnas' prepared by the Sangh.

Bharat Vikas Parishad
It was established in 1990. Activities of the Prished revolve round four pillars, namely, Samparak, Sahyog, Sanskar and Sewa. It is a branch of All India Bharat Vikas Prishad. Kaithal branch is carrying out activities like all other branches like Viklang Sahayata Yojna. Jaipur foot is being given free of cost to handicapped persons. Jaipur foot depot is at Delhi.Persons go to Delhi with authority letter and get the required foot, To and fro fare to Delhi is by the Prished. Each foot costs about Rs. 700/- .

Haryana Kalyan Samiti
It was formed with the aim 'Dahej Roko'. This organization helps in reunion of the separated couples, gives free legal aid to the needy and the poor. The organisation honours social workers of the area, distributes quilts, blankets and sewing machines among the poor, arranges marriages of the poor girls, provides drinking water facility at 50 places in the district. Sahitya award has been set up for best writer (Rs.1100+1 shawl) by Sh. Babu Ram Gupta founder President in the memory of his father. Selection is done by Sahitya Prishad, Kaithal.

Lion's Club
It was established in 1978 in Kaithal. This organization emphasis's on health services in addition to social services. It arranges free health camps every month, ten immunization camps, and three eye camps (cataract operation) in a year.

Rotary Club
This organisation is affiliated with Rotary International. It was established in 1975 at Kaithal. Its main activities are to serve the poor, the patients and welfare of people especially children. During 1992-93 a free camp for piles; and a free eye camp in collaboration with Medical College, Rohtak was organised,Polio-Plus i.e. Shishu Suraksha Diwas was organised in Nanakpuri, Kaithal for three months. the club is running a reading room and children library.

Rashtriya Vidya Samiti
It was set up in 1954. The object of the samiti is to promote education. It is running a college namely Radha Krishna Sanatan Dharam, College, Kaithal.

Sanatan Dharam Sabha
This organisation helps in the rehabilitation of aged helpless persons. It has constructed a Birdh Ashram for the aged.They are given free meals and free treatment during illness.

Manav Kalyan Trust
To motivated Eye donors, Blood donors this trust established eye bank named 'Ram Kishan Dass Netra Bank', 'Manav Blood Bank', 'Manav Vastar Bhandar' ,'Manav Book Bank' for poor people.

Arya Smaj
This organisation is running a high school, a library and a homoeopathic dispensary.

Lion's Club-Central
This organisations emphasis's on social, medical services. This is running a school for mentally retarded and deaf & dumb children.This also provide scholarship and all sort of help to poor and brilliant students. Besides this, in medical services this is organising Eye Camp, Hepatitis -'B' Vaccination camp, Blood Donation Camp, Free cordial and diabeties checkup camp.

Swami Vasudev Dharmarth Trust
The main objective of this trust is to cure the eye diseases and operation free of cost. Every Sunday this trust organizes a eye operation camp for the poor.

Nawjeevan Yuva Kala Manch,Cheeka
The manch provides drinking water facility at different places in the town. It provides sewing machines to the needy, poor and widows. The manch is also running a library.

Mahavir Dal , Cheeka
It is running a charitable hospital of the same name where a large number of people take free treatment daily. Dal has also constructed a Mahabir Dharamshala for the welfare of people and is providing temporary night staying facility to the outsiders.

Society for the prevention of cruelty to Animal
S.P.C.A, Kaithal is running a clinic for animal, organizing programmes and competitions in school and college for prevention of the cruelty. Provide feed to stray animals and providing animal care in general by organsing awareness programme.

Indian Nursery Man Association, Kaithal
To improve the horticulture & floriculture condition in the the country, this association is running 25 branches in the country and one of them is also established at Kaithal.
